Week 4 Learning Journal
My main goal right now is pretty simple: I want to do well in all my computer science classes. If I can stay consistent with assignments, projects, and exams, I’ll build the kind of foundation I need to take the next step toward grad school. I know that keeping my grades up isn’t just about numbers on a transcript—it’s about proving to myself that I can handle the workload and keep pushing forward. Thinking about where this could lead keeps me motivated, because the effort I’m putting in now directly shapes the opportunities I’ll have later.
In the long run, I want to earn a Master’s in Computer Science through Georgia Tech’s online program, with a focus on Machine Learning. I can really picture myself digging into advanced topics and learning the practical skills to work in areas where AI and machine learning are making a difference. For me, this goal feels exciting because it’s not just about getting another degree—it’s about taking a big step forward in my career and preparing myself to work on things that actually push the field forward. It’s ambitious enough to keep me moving but still clear enough that I know exactly what I’m aiming for.
I also spent some time looking at the ETS Computer Science test description and sample questions, and honestly, it was a mix of overwhelming and motivating. Some of the advanced concepts feel way out of reach right now, but I know that after a year and a half of classes, steady studying, and regular practice, I’ll be in a much better place. If I had to guess where I’d land, I’d put myself around the 60th percentile. That feels realistic—better than average but still acknowledging how tough and competitive the exam is. At the same time, I believe that with the right preparation and consistency, I could definitely push that score higher.
Your goals are clear and realistic. I like how you connect doing well in your classes to your bigger plan of getting into grad school. Focusing on consistency is smart, it's what will build long term success. Funny enough I as well would like to get into Georgia Tech's online master's program after this since I've heard nothing but good reviews about the program. You've got a solid vision, and I have a good feeling your hard work now will pay off later.
ReplyDeleteHello, your goals seem well thought out. It could be beneficial to plan out what specific job or company you are interested in, especially for the 5-10 year range. I appreciated how you see getting an education not purely for obtaining "another degree" as you put it, but as a way to prove yourself. I think it is so awesome that you have such a defined and focused goal for your computer science classes it makes sense to take that type of consistency and use it for success in a field such as CS where concepts build up on themselves. Your long-term plan regarding the Master's of Georgia Tech's online Master's in Machine Learning is awesome! It is quite ambitious and having that specific goal is a great motivator. About the ETS test: Don't let the "overwhelming" feeling get to you. That is a natural reaction. What you plan to do: consistent steady study, is fine. As a supplement, try to break the ETS test description into smaller topic areas. Then you can make your weekly study relate with that one or two small areas of the test so that it appears easier.

For me, I've been thinking about a masters and haven't looked into it too deeply, but it's definitely a program I'll consider after this. I also really like your mindset on how working hard for grades isn't about the final number/letter. It's something I can relate to as before difficult exams I always tell myself it's fine as long as I tried my best.
